Let's Begin

Welcome to my blog. I hope to keep this updated at least 1-2 times a week, so check back in every so often! I plan on discussing life and music, and just about anything else that comes up on my radar.

So, I am here in Indiana at the b-skool. So far, so good. I am learning a ton but I am extremely busy.

Here is the music that is getting me through the long days and even longer nights:

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl. A sign of a great band is the willingness to change their sound (U2 took this quality to the next level). For a distortion-guitar rock band like BRMC to go grass roots and acoustic on an album is as big a departure as any I have heard in a long time. I mean, listen to their first two albums and you'll think their electric guitars are their meal ticket. But wham, they changed it all on this record. Listen to "Shuffle Your Feet". If that doesn't make you start tapping your foot and digging the beat, you better check your pulse. Then follow that up with some "Ain't No Easy Way".

Coldplay - X&Y. The whole album is solid. I would put it in my top 5 of the last few months. Besides the obvious hit, "Speed of Sound", I really enjoy "White Shadows", "The Hardest Part", "Talk", "A Message", and "Fix You".

The Bravery - Great young band. Check them out. "Honest Mistake" is an excellent single. Hopefully, it will get their names out there. They opened up for U2 on the Euro leg of the Vertigo tour.

Trent Reznor - Hurt [live at MTV ReAct Now benefit] - Trent playing solo on a piano. Absolutely incredible version of this song. Almost as good as Johnny Cash's cover.

Killers - Hot Fuss. This whole album is insanely good, especially for a debut. And these songs don't play out easily. I love the song "On Top". Great song, amazing 80's synth-pop background with some killer vocals (pun intended).

Pearl Jam feat. Bono - Rockin' in the Free World. So Bono joins Eddie Vedder on stage in Toronto a few weeks ago and starts rocking the mic. It was amazing! Bono and Ed are, without a doubt, the kings of anthemic arena rock.
