Woo-Hoo!

So the MBAA team I am a part of won the election today!

I am now a Vice-President!

It is very cool to have the opportunity to help improve Kelley. This b-skool is underrated!

Buckle up Wharton, Fuqua, Kellogg, Tuck, and Johnson! Our team is going to skyrocket Kelley up the ratings scoreboard (it might take a while, though...)! Just watch what some talent, determination, and perseverance will do. Our name: Team Synergy (I came up with our team name...I'll admit I am kind of proud of that).

Not that I have any sour grapes against Kellogg and Johnson for waitlisting and rejecting me a few months ago...I would never hold a grudge... >:| Here is our campaign poster for posterity!

In Your Honor

The Foo Fighters. Maybe you think they are just another bunch of punks, rocking out to trash music somewhere in the ether. Maybe you are wrong.

I will just let the song, "In Your Honor" speak for itself:

Can you hear me
Hear me screamin'
Breaking in the muted sky
This thunder heart
Like bombs beating
Echoing a thousand miles

Mine is yours and yours is mine
There is no divide
In your honor
I would die tonight

Mine is yours and yours is mine
I will sacrifice
In your honor
I would die tonight
For you to feel alive

Can you feel me
Feel me breathing
One last breath before I close my eyes
This offering
For receiving
Deliver me into the other side

Mine is yours and yours is mine
There is no divide
In your honor
I would die tonight

Mine is yours and yours is mine
I will sacrifice
In your honor
I would die tonight
For you to feel alive

For you to feel alive
For you to feel alive
For you to feel alive

Reflections

Well, tonight was certainly interesting. I did some public speaking at my business schools' MBA Association debate. I am running for VP of Finance based on my finance and accounting background. It was a lot of fun - it is kind of exhilarating to go up there and speak about the things that you have accomplished in life and how they qualify you to take on a significant role in the school. I felt surprisingly comfortable up there in front of my peers, which taught me a lot about what is possible for me in the future. If I have great content and material in a presentation, I can hit it out of the park because I am confident in my ability to connect with people. Fundamentally, that is the reason I am delving into marketing - there is a high degree of confidence that I can connect with people and take the time to understand exactly what they are looking for. One of my favorite words is 'essence' because it relates so closely to my core values - authenticity and reality-based living without pretenses of any kind.

Also, I am on a great, well-rounded, diverse team and, regardless of whether we win, it has been a phenomenal experience and one I will not soon forget. In undergrad, I did not take part in enough activities and I always promised myself that I would try to do more if I ever had the opportunity. Well, I answered the call this time and I have no regrets (other than the fact that I have to do some serious studying the next week to catch up on the classes that I am behind in!). This time, I am trying to live to the fullest - no regrets of things left unsaid, actions I should have taken, trips I should have made, people I wish I had been closer with.

That's life, though. You reach for the stars and there is always something that reminds you not to stay too far away from the ground.

Do you ever wonder about the what-ifs in life? I know it can be dismissed as irrelevant, but is it really irrelevant? Sometimes I think that all it takes are a few small changes in decisions you made over the past few years and your whole life could be different. And this goes for both the good and bad things that have happened to you. It is just thought-provoking when you think about the little things that changed your fate.

Maybe I am rambling...I just reflect on life a lot, especially when I have a lot going on.

Weiner-Envy

You are jealous! Admit it! (j/k) :P

So you know you are in the midwest when the arrival of the weinermobile is hailed as an extraordinary occasion. This is a picture of me last week with my buds, Will and Akshay. It was a fun time. Free weiners and burgers were enjoyed by all. All thanks to Kraft and Oscar Mayer!

U2 Fan(atic)

Who is that guy to the lower right?...ok ok it's me. I'm not a fanatic, I swear! If I didn't see this show, it would be another 4-5 years until the next tour. I flew into NYC all the way from Indiana to see this show. Fun stuff. At this point in the concert, Bono was pulling up 3 gals from the crowd. They used a sign that read "3 Sisters Love U2" to get on stage for the slow dance during with or without you.

Other highlights from the concert included Mary J. Blige coming onstage to sing "One" with the band. That got an amazing NYC crowd reaction.

Another great moment occurred when U2 played "Miss Sarajevo", which was originally performed with Luciano Pavarotti in the mid-90's. The song was originally written for women who held a beauty pageant in war-torn Sarajevo in the early 90's. The beauty contest was an act of defiance and humanity at a time of ethnic cleansing and hatred.

At MSG, Bono just sang the opera section of the song himself and he nailed it. The lyrics go like this:
Dici che il fiume trova la via al mare
E come il fiume giungerai a me
Oltre i confini e le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
Come fiume l'amore giungera
L'amore e non so piu pregare
E nell'amore non so piu sperare
E quell'amore non so piu aspettare

English translation of the Italian lyrics:

You say that as a river finds its way to the sea
And as the river you'll find your way back to me
Beyond the borders and the thirsty lands
You say that as the river
As the river, you say that love will find a way
But love, I'm not a praying man
And in love I can't believe anymore
And for love I can't wait anymore
